WellConnector Debuts at CMS HealthTech Event in DC

Florida-based startup joins national push to kill the clipboard

WASHINGTON (April 20, 2026) – WellConnector, a health tech startup headquartered in Florida’s capital city, marked a milestone in its mission to help make patient paperwork a thing of the past. The application, designed to securely store and share patient health history with providers, debuted in a live demonstration in the nation’s capital.

On April 9, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) hosted its “HealthTech Ecosystem Live! First Wave Launch” event in Washington, DC. The event brought together an initial set of patient-facing apps to move the nation “beyond clipboards, fax machines, and repetitive paperwork into a seamless, digital‑first era” -- including Tallahassee-based WellConnector.

Last year, the agency called on the industry to help build a modern digital health ecosystem. This was music to the WellConnector team’s ears, as they had begun the process. WellConnector became an early adopter to pledge support for the “Kill the Clipboard” initiative in the category of Patient-Facing Apps, committing to seamless, secure data exchange -- eliminating the need for patients to repeatedly recall and write out their medical history.

“The timing of these broader shifts in the healthcare ecosystem creates new opportunities to scale and collaborate, including testing through a broader network of partners and platforms,” said Allison Aubuchon, WellConnector cofounder and CEO. “This CMS initiative means there will be greater consensus around standards for identity, security, and interoperability, reducing barriers when exchanging information across healthcare systems.”

WellConnector’s development, led by Frans de Wet, cofounder and chief technical officer, has accelerated in recent months. De Wet, of WellConnector’s development partner Ruvos, is responsible for overseeing the platform’s technical architecture, ensuring it meets the highest standards of security, scalability, and user-friendliness. He’s also a key driver in ensuring the platform integrates seamlessly with healthcare systems.

After demonstrating WellConnector’s readiness, a demo video was requested, reviewed and then selected by CMS to be highlighted onstage during the agency’s event and livestreamed to national audiences. CMS highlighted tools from more than 50 companies onstage at the Hubert H. Humphrey Building. The WellConnector team came home energized and inspired by the personal stories driving the push toward patient-centered solutions.

“Our mission remains focused on improving the intake process -- the very first step of a patient’s healthcare experience,” added Aubuchon. “We believe getting that right, and doing so in Tallahassee, which we proudly see as a Capital Region Healthcare Innovation Hub, will improve care for patients in our community and beyond.”

As WellConnector prepares for its initial rollout, the team is focusing on caregivers and rural health providers as early market-entry partners. WellConnector’s participation in the CMS First Wave Launch marks a significant step for the team and its work -- demonstrating how coordinated infrastructure and private-sector innovation can deliver simpler, more connected experiences for patients.
